Rail Trail Bike & Kayak currently seeks applicants to fill both part and full-time summer seasonal positions for 2012. Part-time positions usually run from May 15st through September 15th. Full-time seasonal positions end around Columbus Day (October 8th). High School students are welcome to apply for shorter seasonal positions ranging from the end of June to the end of August.

Bicycle Mechanic
We need mechanics to staff our Brewster shop from March 15th through October 15th annually. These positions are 40 hours/week. Bike mechanic experience preferred, but we can providing training if necessary. You should be able to tune up a bike:

- tire/tube installation
- install brake/derailleur cables
- adjust derailleurs
- true wheels
- adjust/tighten crankset, headset & pedals
- install/adjust brake pads on linear-pull systems
- adjust disk brake systems
- properly clean & lube chain
- clean/polish entire bike

Additionally, skills in cassette/freewheel replacement, hub/bottom bracket servicing, etc. are also required from time to time. These jobs are primarily technical positions, but employees must routinely perform some sales duties too like ringing customer purchases, renting bikes, selling bikes and accessories, etc.

Sales Staff
Sales positions are 40 hours/week for the entire summer season. Duties include maintaining sales floor cleanliness, stocking new merchandise, managing bike rental fleet, selling bikes/accessories, general customer service, ringing purchases and minor mechanical work (tire/tube installation, attaching trailers, stem/seat adjustment, etc.). A friendly demeanor, strong communication skills and basic math knowledge are necessary attributes for this job.

Pay for these positions is negotiable and directly dependent on any applicant's specific skills and experience. Scheduling will include some weekend days.
